Notes: An urban combat Kuwagata variant that is so frequently used by law enforcement agencies for anti-MS crime solving that the official name was changed to Legist and the shoulder-mounted sirens made standard equipment. It was designed to maneuver through crowded urban areas while causing a minimal amount of damage to the local infrastructure when not in combat.

Kuwagata Quicksilver

Notes: An attempt at making a partially-transformable Kuwagata that could perform high-speed dive bombing attacks. Although its mobility in mobile suit mode was exceptional, its speed in fighter mode was nothing special and the transformation systems frequently jammed. Production was reportedly halted after 21 units were sold, but rumors persist of knock-off Quicksilvers that resolved the transformation issues being made in pirate dens.

Kuwagata Xerxes

Notes: An experimental model pursuing a new type (no pun intended) of remote weapon that places more firepower into fewer remote units to ease the strain a Newtype feels while using the Psycommu system. Each Dragoon also possesses its own internal power supply, eliminating the need to micromanage recharging cycles.

Kuwagata Improved Mining Type

Notes: Early users of the Kuwagata Miner complained that the Fine Work Arms were useless for actually grabbing things. A secondary grasping claw was added to the arms to give them the ability to hold onto objects.

Notes: An upgraded version of the Flight Type. The Flight Assault Type features larger, more powerful jets that increase the suit's speed while maintaining its maneuverability at the cost of increased fuel consumption.

Kuwagata Miner

Notes: This variant is designed with tunneling, mining, and other jobs you'd need a giant drill for. May or may not be able to pierce the heavens. Although this variant still has missile launchers, they're typically loaded with mining charges unsuited for battle.

Kuwagata Prototype

Notes: This test model Kuwagata was constructed early in the line's development to test its targeting computer's ability to handle different weapon systems adequately. Though pictured with a machinegun, the Prototype was also tested using beam rifles, bazookas, sniper rifles, shields with mounted weapons, and any other weapons the development team could acquire. The prototypes were never meant to be sent into combat as they were built with only enough thrusters to move them from one test site to another and substandard armor materials. The remaining prototypes are now used only to test new handheld weapons.

Kuwagata Flight Type

Notes: While the Jet Kuwagata is capable of aerial combat, it is designed with speed in mind and has poor maneuverability. The Flight Type is the opposite: its function is high-maneuverability/low-speed aerial combat. Another feature introduced with this model was a machinegun that carried four ammo drums at once. Test pilots enjoyed being able to quickly reload their weapons, but noted that the new weapon had a tendency to jam while switching ammo drums.

Colony Defense Kuwagata

Notes: This variant was designed with the intention of defending the interior of space colonies, though it is perfectly capable of fighting in space as well. As such, the typical Kuwagata missile launchers and gatling guns have been replaced with short range replacements so that a miss will have less of a chance of penetrating precious colony hulls. Its body has also been adorned with several spikes for improved close-combat abilities, giving it a somewhat Zaku-like appearance that earned this variant the nickname "Zeonic Kuwagata."

The original name WAS Zeonic Kuwagata, but I like that as a nickname better.

Kuwagata Avenger

Notes: This Kuwagata variant is optimized for performing heavy labor tasks in Zero-G environments. Its thrusters have been specially tuned for pulling heavy loads and can even tow small ships. Its arms are optimized for grasping large objects and hauling them to new locations.

I just realized I think I got most of my variant ideas from the Zaku II.

Jet Kuwagata

Built-in adapters allow it to service weapons not provided by the Kuwagata's manufacturer. However, the power supply's weight gives the suit poor speed and maneuverability.
